There's (probably) going to be a High School Musical 3 called Haunted High School Musical. Look at the article I found:

“Haunted High School Musical” described as “an all-new musical adventure” is due out at your neighborhood Cineplex in 2008.

The move makes sense for Disney, whose 13 month old original “High School Musical” has gone from TV movie to international phenomenon.

The studio claims the film reached over 100 million unique viewers worldwide (including an Indian version dubbed in Hindi with “Bollywood” touches). Its No. 1 soundtrack sold more than 4 million copies last year to become the top selling title in 2006, the first TV movie soundtrack to spawn nine concurrent singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Its DVD has sold 6.5 million copies and a sold out 42-date concert tour that played Hartford last month.

With a script licensed for local school productions, up to 2,000 schools nationwide are expected to stage their own version of the show in its first year of availability – including Bristow Middle School in West Hartford.

All that in addition to the sequel, which will reunite the original cast of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman and the original film’s director and choreographer Kenny Ortega.

No more details were given on casting or plot of “Haunted High School Musical.”

But it was an occasion for officials to crow.

“Given the enormous universal appeal and phenomenal popularity of the ‘High School Musical’ franchise, we wanted to bring that same energy, excitement and entertainment to the big screen with a unique and original idea,” said Oren Aviv, president of production for the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group. “We’re now ready to transform ‘High School Musical’ into a memorable theatrical musical experience with ‘Haunted High School Musical.’ ”

Wow, the second hasn't even come out yet, and they planned a 3rd one.
It was planned even before the second one.
It's kinda sad, actually, lol.

lol. But I read in a mag that Zac said about HSM 3, "I'd rather do something more challenging."

They Havent Even Had The 2nd Movie Out There Yet...I Guess They Just Think #2 Will Be Good, Too.

We don't even know if #2 will be any good but I guess if number 2 doesn't do well they can just cancel #3. Haunted High School Musical sounds bizzare.

The second is that they are all supposed ot be competing as a team in some talent contest.

Actually, I heard on the radio a couple days ago that they were making a third one. [[duh!]] But it's going to be on their senior year with prom going on. It doesn't tell what the plot is though, I'll keep listening.
